BOTOX® can also be used to treat severe underarm sweating, called hyperhidrosis.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time. When it comes to selecting a physician-administered aesthetic treatment, chances are you’ll want proof, not just claims. The proof for BOTOX® Cosmetic is in the numbers.

How does BOTOX
® work?
BOTOX
® blocks the signals coming from the nerves to the muscles. so the muscles can no longer contract. This causes wrinkles to relax and soften. BOTOX® is used most often for lines on the forehead, crow's feet around the eye area and frown lines between the eyes. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to BOTOX® Cosmetic. Wrinkles which are present in the skin before active contraction of muscles will not be removed with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

How is BOTOX® administered?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles.Topical anesthetic creams are available, however, they typically take approximately 45 minutes to take effect. If you plan to use a topical anesthetic, you will want to include this extra time into your scheduled appointment.

Although it takes only a few minutes for the procedure, it can take from 3 to 7 days for the full effect to become noticeable. It is recommended to avoid alcohol and green tea 1 week prior to receiving BOTOX® . Additionally, you may be instructed to stop certain medications such as aspirin (or any blood thinners) and anti-inflammatory drugs a few days prior to the injections in order to reduce bruising. You should always check with your Primary Care Physician before discontinuing any medications.
How long do the effects last?
Although every patient responds in their own unique way to BOTOX® , you can expect the effects to last between 4 and 6 months. As the muscle action gradually returns, lines and wrinkles will begin tore-appear. Wrinkles will need to be retreated when they again become noticeable. Lines and wrinkles can often appear less severe after continued treatments as the muscles are being trained to relax.
Does BOTOX® have any side effects?
The most common side effect after receiving a BOTOX® injection is temporary bruising. Occasionally a headache can occur, however, this is predominately rare. Most headaches usually resolve in 24 to 48 hours. Headaches are usually caused by the BOTOX® spreading into other areas. For this reason, you should avoid rubbing the treated area for at least 12 hours after the procedure or lying down for the first 3 to 4 hours after the procedure.
Will BOTOX® alter my facial expressions?
BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial expressions or appearance even though the results will be noticeable. Muscle activity that causes frown lines between the eyebrows is reduced, however, you are still able to raise or lower your eyebrows with normal expressions and emotions without seeing visible wrinkles and creases between your brows.
Can I stop treatments at any time?
The areas you initially treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic will gradually return to the way they did before treatment.
